Commentary
This week's chart sees a switch at the top - with last weeks number 1 Magic falling to #2, whilst last weeks number 2, is this weeks #1. The haunting sax-driven Changes by Faul & Wad Ad vs. Pnau spends it's first week atop my personal chart. Meanwhile, Fancy and She Looks So Perfect have jumped into the top 5 - with the latter turning out to be a huge guilty pleasure and growing on me enormously!
The highest new entry comes courtesy of Klaxons with There Is No Other Time debuting straight in the top ten at #9. This is much higher than what it charted officially - sadly missing out on the top 40 at #42 last week. This is already my second favourite Klaxons song, after the brilliant Golden Skans in 2007. They went for a much more dance feel for this song and it totally paid off!
The next new entry is courtesy of Rita Ora with I Will Never Let You Down at #12. Ora previewed the single recently, and is her latest one since last years Radioactive. It is produced by boyfriend Calvin Harris, and this wonderful production courtesy of him helps to carry the song along really well. It is a simplistic slice of pop that is sure to do well for Ora when it's impact date comes around.
Next up is Empire by Shakira at #18. The track is totally something I wouldn't expect from Shakira but ultimately works so well. Her vocals are soaring and have never sounded better, and the whole event leads to an explosive finale. The only reason it isn't higher is because I do find some of the lyrics a bit iffy.
Lastly, in at #30 is Sigma with Nobody to Love. Hotly tipped to be the official #1 this week (so expect a review come Wednesday!) I thought I'd better check it out, and found that I liked what I was hearing on first listen. The track features a studio vocalist singing the parts that Charlie Wilson sings in Kanye West's Bound 2, and being a huge fan of Bound 2, this version pales a little in comparison, but still puts it's own spin on it and is ultimately pretty impressive never the less.
